Biofeedback Breathing is a technology that helps individuals understand and control their nervous systems’ responses to trauma. Today, Fortune CEOs, astronauts, and professional athletes most often use these technologies to enhance performance in their respective fields. Our core innovation is bringing this technology to rural communities to support those who have much at stake: students, first responders, parents, and inmates.
The Biofeedback Breathing Program gives a cohort of community members access to this life-changing technology for 15 minutes a day over a period of two weeks.
This small amount of time has catalyzed transformative change in the individuals in the program and the systems they’re entangled in, shifting practices from punitive to restorative.
This free resource offers a taste of what it takes to implement a Biofeedback Breathing Program in a community based setting like a school, nonprofit, counseling center. Use the guide to explore if Biofeedback may be a fit for your organization.
Biofeedback Breathing technology helps users understand their Heart Rate Variability (HRV).
HRV is a measure of how evenly your heart beats, and it turns out, your heart is connected to the nervous system. The nervous system sends two contradictory signals to your heart. The Parasympathetic nervous system, which handles things like rest and digestion, tells your heart to beat slower. The sympathetic nervous system, which handles things like stress and excitement, tells your heart to speed up. Your heart responds to these two signals, decreasing your HRV when they are in balance, and increasing your HRV when they are out of balance.
Biofeedback shows users their HRV in connection with many different emotions. This helps you build a deeper understanding of your emotions and how they impact your body.
The Biofeedback Breathing Technology was developed by our wonderful partners.
ROI offers a full-service, technical assistance package to help community-based facilitate Biofeedback Breathing with the populations they serve.
